I support the ALP National Party policy of marriage equality and would vote in favour of marriage equality for all adult couples irrespective of gender if given a conscience vote.
The Australian Labor Party believes that all people are entitled to respect, dignity and the opportunity to participate fully in society regardless of their sexuality. As a result, the Labor government has previously introduced reforms to amend more than eighty Commonwealth laws to eliminate discrimination against same sex couples.
At the National Conference in July 2015, the ALP resolved to support marriage equality and also allow MPs and Senators a conscience vote on the issue when it comes before a Parliament.
Labor promises to bring forward a vote on marriage equality within the first 100 days of a Bill Shorten-led Labor Government.
I have spoken about this multiple times in the Parliament, and you can see my most recent speech here.
